The US is slowly becoming a soccer nation. Want to help the fad grow? Well begin by listening at work, watching at home and playing in local leagues.
On the Internet you can watch live and archived European games on UEFA.com. Listen live online to the World Soccer Daily radio show through ITunes, look for it in the Radio link in the Libraries category. You can also download podcasts of the various shows. Watch at home on three channels that I know of. Fox Soccer Channel, GOALTV and Setanta Sports. Check local cable listings for one of these stations. Want to play? Many cities have indoor arenas where everyone, male and female, young and old, average Joe to the professional wannabe can play. Indoor is great because leagues go year around. There are also outdoor adult leagues in most major cities. Can't find an adult league? Look for pickup games at fields, usually played on Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon.
You can also volunteer to coach a team. It is unfortunate, but there is a real shortage of coaches. And even more so of qualified coaches. If you decide to coach, it is important to get a certification to help your understanding of the needs of young players. Discover a whole new world! US Soccer, It is great and it is growing.
