Meet The Blogger, A Guy Who Believes Today Is Tomorrow

Today Friday March 7th it snowed at home... We live in Bossier City, Louisiana which is in the extreme north part of the state. This is the first time in 6 years it has snowed and stayed for any length of time. Too bad the kids are in school, we could have broken out the skis and headed to the levee!

I am an independant software consultant, and I have several successful internet businesses of my own. But blogging is new for me. As I was thinking about a theme for my blog, I was reminded of something my dad always used to say, "Son, a wise man learns from his mistakes, but a wiser man yet learns from the mistakes of others." Well with this blog, Pencils In The Ceiling, hopfully I will be able to share lessons I've learned over the years regarding a variety of topics. Not really the deep stuff like, "why did I turn out the way that I did?". More along the way of helpful advice based my trying something and what I learned. One of the things I did within the last couple of years was to buy a new Ford Mustang. I will be posting here my thoughts on going from a large truck, which I had for many years, to the smaller, albeit faster Ford Mustang.

My internet businesses include a martime employment matching service named BoatWorkers.com, a Louisiana based social network called BayouPeeps, and of course many adsense sites that help people find answers. I created my first personal business site over 10 years ago, it is LouisianaCajun.com. And my first job working as a web developer for someone else came in 1998. I was hired to create a site for a magazine distributor who also sold various types of remaindered books, videos and clothing. The site is ValueBin.com and it is still up and running today just as I created it over 10 years ago.

One of my current personal projects is LunchGenie.com. The site is not live as of this post, but here is what it is all about. I have had this concept to allow visitors to be shown a random nearby restaurant to go to for lunch. It was born out of the frustration of trying to figure out where to eat for lunch each day. I found a database of 450,000 restaurants and am using it to pick a nearby restaurant.

Finally, we are in the process of adding a new swimming pool. I have created a multi threaded post to track the progress. You can read about it here - New Swimming Pool Phase One
