Thin is in! It always has been and always will be. Besides being cool, the benefits of being thin are too numerous to list. Thin people just find life easier. Everyday things are easy, from riding on a plane in a tight seat, to simply walking around in a mall.

An appropriate weight staves off numerous diseases and will add years to your life. Obesity has been linked to many fatal diseases . It's no secret that diseases like heart disease, diabetes, cancer, sleep apnea, agina, high blood pressure, hypertension and life altering joint problems like arthritis are almost quaranteed to affect the life of anyone who is overweight. According to some, it is because American's are hooked on a drug called sugar. You don't think of stimulants like sugar or caffene as a drug, but they have a marked affect on the body right? So why not consider sugar a bad substance? The World Health Organzation has even launched a national campaign to lower the intake of sugar. Which it says is the primary reason for the current epidemic of obesity and it's associated diseases, such as diabetes and numerous heart problems.

With all of the emphasis on thin and so many many opportunities to lose weight, why is the American population breaking records for weight? There is a two fold answer, first exercise is  now optional for almost all Americans and second, food is everywhere! Not just any food, but bad food. Soda machines are everywhere, snack machines and convenience stores are on every corner. We live in a fast paced busy world, where we don't have to work physically for our food. If we want something to eat we can have as much as we want in a matter of minutes. Yet our genetic makup was cultured over millions of years to be less fast and and consume less food. Mainly because our ancestors had to work for it and there wasn't much there. The process of food gathering alone burned energy. And the amount that could be generated was far less than you can buy for 3.00 at the local fast food drive through.

So with that said, there are more ways to lose weight today than at any time in history. Want to lose weight? Try any of the numerous pills, programs, hynosis, books, audio tapes, magazines even reality shows all designed to help you lose weight. Now I've never been overweight, just a few extra pounds that have been nagging. But I have spent time researching and thinking about this problem.

My Inspiration

For me the problem boiled down to sugar intake. I learned this while reading Mens Health magazine. I found an article that explained exactly how sugar forces your body to store excess carbohydrates. The article explained that the combination of an excess of carbs and too much sugar convinced your body to store the unused carbs as fat. It was as simple as that.

How I Lost 15 Pounts

Exactly how did I lose the weight? I lowered, nearly eliminated, carbohydrate consumption and stopped drinking sugary drinks. I was already playing indoor soccer two/three times per week without significant weight loss. But once I combined the low sugar and no carbs, the weight started dropping. First I broke the 190 pound mark down from 199, then in under three weeks I hit the 185 mark. I can see the weight loss in my face, and my spare tire is almost gone. I am currently down to 182, and my latest goal is to hit 175 pounds. I think my ideal weight is probably about 165. That is it. Simple huh?
